Podcasts from beyond the grave

Just added a podcast to the website. An interesting little expedition using Audacity for the Mac to record the audio and creating a feed using this link. I'll probably just update the feed with BBEdit. I know this process isn't news to most people. I just haven't gotten around to it because I tore up my recording studio when I moved back in with my husband. I was a little worried about the sound quality with my PowerMac G5, but it worked great. I have a Beyer mike that I picked up for about $400, but the real jewel is my Symetrix 528E Voice Processor, for about $700. (These prices are from about seven years ago.)

The Voice Processor has a De-Esser (can't be a parsel tongue), a compressor (so you don't pop when you say Peter Piper ...) and a three-band equalizer. With it, you get a pretty clean recording. Of course, a lot of what the Voice Processor does is now done in software, but it's been well worth its cost over the years.

I don't understand, it's too hard

Shut up, you big whiner. It's easy. Go to the AfterNet, register for a username, and either:
  1. Pretend to be a famous dead person (you may not be the first to claim to be that person, however
  2. Pretend to be a non-famous dead person (less research, fewer rewards)
  3. Pretend to be a living person (shouldn't be much of a stretch)
Here's your chance to be Madame Curie, Napoleon Bonaparte or Ulf, a 12th century serf.

Now go. Stop reading this blog.

The beginning of insanity

I just realized I got upset with one of my fictional characters on the website.

Multiple Personality Disorder

It’s so much fun keeping track of the various personalities I’ve created while building the AfterNet. There’s Steffan Kometsky, a Minnesoootan who I use as my baseball guy. There are the characters from my book, Alex Munroe and Linda Yamaguchi, Lady Sylvia (who’s not yet made an appearance in the new site and is actually the creation of Susan Chandler) and of course, Fr. Justin Hogarth S.J., who I consider a voice of sanity.

It can be a little mind numbing to remember who I am at a particular moment. I have to look in the mirror occasionally to remember I’m me.
